You see folks not only have I been using a proto pipe™ for the last 25 years. I have been selling it to brick and mortar retail stores for the last 10 or 15 years.
As you can see I was damn lazy here .
I mean at first I would try to get the tar trap out then I just gave up.
In my defense i did almost always have at least 100 brand new real proto pipes™ in stock. So when i saw the black super glue coming out of the bottom, I would just grab a new one from the shelf.
either that or start bending proto pokers. I sure am glad I was lazy cause

It’s like this there are good alternatives to the original proto pipe™ on the market.
The best one in my opinion is probably the shaka pipe™ I have never owned one, but If you look at the pictures on line and read about it is pretty damn cool.
Also the original designer of the proto pipe™ is making the mendo pipe™ it is a fine pipe also.
The problem with these two pipes is that (THEY DO NOT HAVE A TAR TRAP PLUG)
They have a DOOR?
(YOU NEED A PLUG)
Now the original proto pipe™ has a press fit solid brass plug. it is precisely ground to fit the pipe perfectly its actually hard to believe that resins can penetrate to the bottom.
Now both the Shaka™ and the mendo pipe™ have a door at the bottom.
(IF RESIN IS GOING TO LEAK AND ACTUALLY BYPASS A PRESS FIT PLUG THEN WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN WITH A DOOR?)
The door will leek of course.A door that has to be adjusted with a wrench 🔧 that is.
How about if you forget to close the door and drop the pipe and bend the door ? I bet you it will really leek then .
If I had one of those pipes, I would definitely drop it the first day I had it and bend the door.

What I’m getting at here is the absolute largest complaint about the original proto pipe™.
The tar trap gets stuck.
There are videos that actually show you how to remove a proto tar trap.
You will need a torch and a 1/16 inch
Steel punch and a hammer 🔨
Now what you will need to do is heat only the tar trap with a torch, so the resin liquefies now get your 1/16 (better be made by snap on tools ) punch and hammer and go to work the hard part is not burning your fingers.
WITH THE BETTER BRASS PIPE™, you will never have any of these problems ever.(GUARANTEED)
THE BETTER BRASS PIPE™ has a plug just like a proto except it is a straight cut plug and accepts a O-ring where as the proto pipe™ has a taper so it can press fit. With the American sourced RED RINGER™ o-ring all problems are solved. This food grade high temperature silicone seal is really quite special it form fits to the pipe .
By the way I am the person that remanufactures these pipes in California
The poker alone is 3 separate parts that have to be welded to each other and sized correctly
Not to mention the rest of the pipe has to be welded this is all done by hand one pipe at a time.
You can call me crazy if you like but I consider this art (RETRO ART TO BE EXACT)

The parts are made with production machines in China quite simple really.
The hard part is assembling the parts correctly this is what I do this takes TIME and time is money .
Every pipe is fitted by hand by this I mean I have to check to see if the poker will stay in and make adjustments

yes I have blisters on my fingers and the touch id on my IPhone doesn’t seem to work anymore.
But I just love making these pipes l make them every day and I will never stop.
I DO NOT LABEL THEM AS MADE IN U.S.A.
But I do consider them an American made product.
FOR EXAMPLE I HAVE AN AMERICAN MADE CAR MADE WITH IMPORTED PARTS?
Should it not be considered to be a car that is assembled in the U.S.A. With foreign parts?
